Ghoulish Halloween Layered Cake

GHOULISH HALLOWEEN LAYERED CAKE
1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
3 c. flour
1 T. baking powder
½ t. salt
1 c. milk
¼ c. baking cocoa
¼ c. water
½ t. vanilla
½ t. orange extract
1 T. grated orange peel
10 drops yellow food coloring
6 drops red food coloring
FROSTING:
3 (3-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
5 ¾ c. powdered sugar
2 T. milk
8 drops yellow food coloring
6 drops red food coloring
GLAZE:
3 oz. semisweet chocolate
1/3 c. heavy whipping cream
Candy corn, garnish

  1. In bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Mix well.
  4. Combine cocoa, water and vanilla. Stir in 2 c. cake batter.
  5. Pour into greased and floured 9” round baking pan.
  6. Add orange extract, peel and food coloring to remaining batter.
  7. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9”round baking pans.
  8. Bake 350 for 30 minutes or until cake tests done.
  9. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks.
  10. In bowl, beat all frosting ingredients until smooth.
  11. Place one orange cake layer on cake plate. Spread ½ c. frosting
  12. Top with chocolate layer. Spread ½ c. frosting.
  13. Top with second orange layer. Frost the sides and top of each.
  14. Microwave chocolate and cream on HIGH 1 ½ minutes, or stirring once.
  15. Stir until smooth. Let cool 2 minutes.
  16. Slowly pour over cake, letting glaze drizzle down sides.
  17. Garnish with candy corn.
