Southern Mustard Greens
Ingredients
- 2-4 slices hickory smoked bacon, chopped
- 1 lb. meaty ham hocks
- 3 lbs. bunches mustard greens, stems removed and chopped
- 1 ½ lbs. small turnips, peeled and coarsely chopped
- 1 large Vidalia onion, chopped
- 3 T. minced garlic
- 2 c. chicken broth
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Tabasco, optional
Instructions
- In large stockpot, cook bacon until almost crisp.
- Add onion and garlic and cook until soft.
- Add ham, greens, turnips and stock. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer in covered pot. Cook until greens and turnips are tender.
- Season to taste. Serve with Tabasco, optional.
