Ingredients
  • 3 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 ¼ c. buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven 375.
  2. Butter 8x5” metal loaf pan.
  3. In large bowl, whisk both flours with baking soda and salt.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk buttermilk with the egg.
  5. Stir into the dry ingredients with a wooden spoon until rough dough forms.
  6. Transfer dough to lightly floured work surface and knead until smooth.
  7. Form dough into a loaf and put in the prepared pan.
  8. Bake for 50 minutes, until bread has risen about ½” above the rim of pan.
  9. Once unmolded, the loaf should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Let cool to warm or room temperature, slice and serve.
