Freshest Caprese Burger
Ingredients
- 12 oz. ground round
- 12 oz. bulk milk Italian sausage
- ½ c. basil pesto, divided
- 8 slices fresh mozzarella
- 4 slices Italian baguette (if you can get rosemary flavored, get it)
- 1 T. olive oil
- 8 thin slices tomato, seasoned with salt, black pepper
- Fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Preheat grill to medium. Brush grill with oil.
- Combine ground round, sausage and ¼ c. pesto.
- Divide and shape into 4 oval patties
- Grill Patties, covered, until an instant thermometer inserted in center comes out 160, about 5-6 minutes per side.
- Top each burger with 2 slices of mozzarella and grill until melted.
- Transfer burgers to plate, tent with foil and let rest 2-3 minutes.
- Brush baguette slices with oil and grill until toasted on both sides.
- Spread remaining ¼ c. pesto on bread slices.
- Top with burgers and tomato. Garnish with basil leaves.
