Ingredients
  • 4-6 slices of firm, thick bread (white, whole wheat, etc.)
  • Butter (enough to spread on each side of bread)
  • 1 thick slice or 2 regular slices of creamy cheese (Havarti, Swiss, Farmhouse Cheddar, etc.)
  • 1 thick slice or 2 regular slices of good quality ham (optional)
  • Sliced Tomatoes, Sliced Avocados, Bacon Slices, thinly Sliced Green Apples (all optional)
  • Dijon Mustard
  • PAM or butter
Instructions
  1. Butter one side of each side of the bread.
  2. On the inner side, brush with Dijon mustard.
  3. On one side of bread, layer your choices, to go along with the cheese. You can do just cheese or combination of the above optional ingredients.
  4. Place the other slice of bread on top and place in hot skillet or Panini pan.
  5. Grill on each side 1-2 minutes. You may have to turn several times. Look for cheese to melt.
Notes
*****The cheese, bacon and thinly sliced apples make a very nice change. We all know this is a great sandwich with Homemade Tomato Soup.

  1. First loved your comments about swim suit very funny – I see where you made grilled cheese and ham sandwiches – which we love / we have issues of trying to keep salt under control – realize most ham will have salt – would like to hear your recommendation for a quality ham to make a good sandwich. Thanks for your help / I have so enjoyed your site so much so I have shared with some friends who are foodies and gardeners too / usually on Saturday nights we get together and try different restaurants – good socializing and hopefully good food.. Again thanks

  2. I had sent a question recently do not think I sent correctly / question regarding your ham sandwiches – my family trying to cut back on salt / and we love ham and cheese sandwiches / would you please tell us what you consider quality ham for sandwiches .. Also loved your swim suit comments – enjoyed very funny – thanks for your help – Glenda mitchel
