Irish Brown Bread
Ingredients
- 3 c. whole wheat flour
- 1 c. flour
- 1 t. baking soda
- 1 t. salt
- 1 ¼ c. buttermilk
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat oven 375.
- Butter 8x5” metal loaf pan.
- In large bowl, whisk both flours with baking soda and salt.
- In a small bowl, whisk buttermilk with the egg.
- Stir into the dry ingredients with a wooden spoon until rough dough forms.
- Transfer dough to lightly floured work surface and knead until smooth.
- Form dough into a loaf and put in the prepared pan.
- Bake for 50 minutes, until bread has risen about ½” above the rim of pan.
- Once unmolded, the loaf should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let cool to warm or room temperature, slice and serve.
