Pleasing Cherry Pie Bars
Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- ¾ c. sugar
- ½ t. salt
- 1 ½ c. cold butter, cubed
- 3 c. canned cherry pie filling
- 1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1 c. powdered sugar
- 4-6 t. whole milk
- ½ t. almond extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven 350.
- Line bottom and sides of 13x9” pan with heavy-duty foil, allowing 3” to overlap and lightly grease with PAM.
- Pulse flour, sugar and salt in food processor until combined.
- Add butter cubes and pulse until mixture is crumbly.
- Reserve 1 c. flour mixture. Press rest into bottom of prepared dish.
- Bake in oven 25-30 minutes until lightly browned.
- Spread cherry pie filling over crust.
- Toss together reserved flour mixture and pecans.
- Sprinkle this over the cherry pie, evenly.
- Bake until golden brown, 30-40 minutes.
- Cool completely in pan.
- Lift baked bars from pan, using foil sides to lift.
- Stir together powdered sugar, 4 t. milk and extract. Add extra milk if needed to get the creamy consistency.
- Drizzle over pecan mixture.
- Cut into 48 bars.
- Wrap in foil for up to 3 days or store in refrigerator, or freeze.
