Ingredients
  • 2-3 lb. fully cooked boneless ham
  • 1 (14-16 oz.) can sliced pineapple, drained (save juice)
  • 1 can of Coca-Cola
  • 1 small jar cherries, drained
  • 1 (16-oz.) box brown sugar
  • ½ c. spicy mustard
  • ¼ c. apple cider vinegar
  • Whole cloves
Instructions
  1. Make diagonal cuts about ¼” deep and 1” apart on top of ham. Place ham on rack in shallow baking pan.
  2. Insert whole cloves on the top (as much as you like.)
  3. Take pineapple slices and cherries and place on top of ham or if you want just lay in bottom of pan. My family does not like the fruit on the ham, optional.
  4. Mix the pineapple juice, coke, mustard, vinegar and brown sugar in saucepan and heat and mix until sugar is dissolved. Let simmer about 10 minutes.
  5. Bake ham at 325 for about 1 hour until internal temperature reaches 140. Baste the ham with the sauce, every 10-15 minutes. Cook for another hour and keep basting.
  6. Remove from oven, let sit for about 10 minutes. Slice and serve.
  7. For a little twist, sometimes I add 1-2 jars of pepper jelly for the sauce. Kicks it up a notch.
Notes
*****Poppa Vernon and Ms. Sis Schwartzenburg, parents of our dear friends, Jimmy and Patsy Bullara, would invite us every summer to go to Florida. Ms. Sis would bake this ham to just have for snacking. Little did she know, but she really created the first honey-baked ham. This was the best ham I ever put in my mouth. Every time I cook one or see one, I think of the great times we shared at the beach. They were so generous that they would invite my whole family to join their group. We would easily be 20-30 people or more. Great memories—GREAT HAM!
