Mummy wraps
Ingredients
- 1 (16-oz.) package of regular size hot dogs (8 hot dogs, cut in half crosswise)
- 2 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, cut into 16 thin slices
- 1 t. salt
- 1 t. black pepper
- ½ t. garlic powder
- 8 sheets phyllo dough
- 1 stick butter, melted
- Catsup, mustard, bbq sauce or your favorite dipping sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven 400 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut a slice in each hot dog piece and stuff with a slice of cheese. Set aside.
- Combine the seasonings in a bowl.
- Working with one sheet of phyllo at a time, keeping the rest covered under a damp towel.
- Lay a phyllo sheet on a large cutting board and lightly brush with melted butter.
- Lightly sprinkle the seasoning and fold in half lengthwise.
- Brush with more butter and cut into ½” thick strips.
- Using 2 pieces of stuffed hot dogs per phyllo sheet, wrap half of the strips around each piece of hot dog to create a mummy look.
- Leave a small section of the hot dog exposed towards the top so it looks like the top part of the face peeking out from the wrappings. Do not worry about the frayed edges or tears, it will add to the mummy look.
- Place on baking sheet the wrapped mummies. Bake until phyllo is crisp and golden brown.
- If desired dot catsup or mustard for eyes on the mummy wraps. Serve with extra dipping sauce desired.
Notes
*****Heat the butter if it hardens while you are preparing the rest of the wraps.
