Hazelnut Torte
Ingredients
- ¾ c. butter
- 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate
- 1 ½ c. packed brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 c. flour
- ½ c. coarsely chopped hazelnuts
- 6 oz. vanilla-flavor confectioner’s coating
- 1 T. shortening
- 1 oz. chocolate-flavor confectioner’s coating
- ½ t. shortening
- Fresh berries
Instructions
- Grease and flour bottom of 8” springform pan. Set aside.
- In saucepan melt butter and unsweetened chocolate, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Cool slightly and add brown sugar.
- Add eggs and vanilla. Beat lightly by hand until blended (do not overbeat).
- Stir in flour. Spread mixture into pan. Sprinkle with nuts.
- Bake 350 for 40-45 minutes or until there is a slight imprint remaining when touched in center. Let cool on wire rack for 5 minutes. Loosen sides of torte with knife. Remove sides of pan and cool completely.
- Coarsely chop vanilla-flavor coating. In heavy saucepan, melt coating and 1 T. shortening over low heat, stirring constantly.
- Set torte on wire rack over waxed paper. Drizzle vanilla coating over torte, spreading if necessary to glaze all of top and sides.
- Coarsely chop chocolate coating. In saucepan, melt coating and ½ t. shortening over low heat, stirring until smooth. Drizzle coating over torte in zigzag fashion. Chill overnite before serving.
Notes
*****Bring torte to room temperature. Warm knife in hot water, dry knife and use to cut the torte. Rewarming knife as needed. Garnish with your favorite berries.
