A GREAT MOTHER’S DAY GIFT AND WONDERFUL WAY TO SUPPORT YOUR CITY!

Wine Tasting Benefit to Support Courthouse Square Beautification Efforts
(Opelousas, LA) – Le Vieux Village historical attraction will serve as the venue for Wine Up at the Village on Thursday, June 7th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Opelousas. The event will feature wine tasting paired with appetizers under the open sky.

The event, which serves as a fundraiser for Nativity and Courthouse Enhancement Fund, is being presented by The Walking Ladies with assistance from Opelousas Main Street Inc. Event organizers include Alice Morrow, Cynthia Lormand, Susie Glowacki, Cathy Hebert and Jeannine Wallace.
Featuring a variety of wines selected by wine specialists, all proceeds from the event will go to assisting the Friends of Main Street as it seeks to preserve and enhance the historic Nativity on the Square as well as enhance the massive oaks on the Square with lighting. Last year, The Walking Ladies were able to repair the door of the Nativity and replace the worn curtains with new window treatments. In addition, a new sound system was purchased and installed, additional landscaping was done and more lights were added to the oak trees.

The efforts to enhance the Courthouse Square are part of the preparation for the City of Opelousas’ Tricentennial, which will be celebrated in 2020.

The evening’s wine tasting will be complemented by a number of special appetizers from local restaurants and establishments, including Steamboat Warehouse, Café Josephine, D Dee’s, Kelly’s Country Meat Block and more.

In addition, the evening will also feature a Wine Pull, where those in attendance will have the opportunity to bid on a gift basket filled with wine and other great items provided by merchants such as Marcello’s, Janise’s Super Market, Phillip’s Wine Cellar and Joey’s Deli.

French for “the old village,” Le Vieux Village is a collection of restored historic structures from Opelousas and from the surrounding areas. The village, which is located at 828 East Landry Street, depicts the unique and diverse historical and cultural heritage that is Opelousas.
