Valentine Red-Swirl Brownies
Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 t. vanilla extract
- ¼ c. cocoa powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 T. red food coloring
- 1 t. vinegar
- 2 eggs
- ¾ c. flour
- ¼ c. chopped toasted pecans or walnuts
- CREAM CHEESE LAYER:
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- ¼ c. sugar
- 1 egg
- ¼ t. vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven 350. Butter 8x8” baking pan. Set aside.
- Brownie Layer: In saucepan, melt butter. Remove butter to large bowl and add sugar, vanilla, cocoa, salt, food coloring and vinegar (in that order), mixing between additions.
- Whisk eggs in small bowl and stir in the cocoa mixture.
- Fold in flour until lightly combined. Stir in nuts and pour batter into prepared pan, saving ¼ c. of batter.
- Cream Cheese Layer: Blend cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla in bowl.
- Gently spread this layer over brownie layer.
- Dollop the remaining brownie layer over the cream cheese layer.
- Using a skewer or tip of knife, drag the tip through the cream cheese mixture to create a swirl pattern.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Remove and cool completely before cutting.
