Whenever “REMEMBERING PEARL HARBOR” comes around each year, I often wonder if the younger generations really know what this is! We all know as time passes, we tend to forget what certain things mean or what their significance is! I believe the younger generations probably can’t relate to anything that happened before 9/11! We as the older generation should try to keep certain memories shared, especially if they are important to why our country is what it is today! So, if you have time today, try to share this important day in history with someone who may not understand this very important date in time!
In today’s menu, the BLACK FOREST CAKE brings back such fabulous memories for me. My maternal grandmother lived in Monroe, LA. Every other year we would drive there for Christmas (no INTERSTATE)! It seemed like it took forever to get there! The long tedious drive was so worth it because I knew when I walked through that door she always had that big beautiful cake sitting front and center. I can tell you as a child I really didn’t see that it was so special but now that I have GRAND PEEPS, and they all have certain requests—it makes me feel very special to prepare something that they desire! It is such a great feeling to know that you are making something for someone who really, really loves that creation! Just remember it can be something as simple as RICE KRISPIE TREATS or something as extravagant as BEEF WELLINGTON. If it makes a memory for someone, it is worth the effort, no matter how big or small!
Have a great day!
