KICKING OFF MAY WITH NUMEROUS FESTIVITIES!

Good Morning Foodies!
So, here we are starting a new month! To me, May is one of the busiest and craziest months of the year—other than maybe, December. In this month, there are so many family celebrations and events that call us together. We have FIRST COMMUNIONS, CONFRIMATIONS, MOTHERS’ DAY, GRADUATIONS, WEDDINGS/PARTIES, MEMORIAL DAY and let’s not forget all the FESTIVALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is a beautiful time of the year, so try to get out there and have some fun!
Today is the crazy celebration of CINCO DE MAYO! Lots of delicious foods and beverages! Coming up this weekend is the KENTUCKY DERBY! These events just show how much we Southerners will have a party for anything. These events have nothing to do with Louisiana, (okay, we do like our horse races). Ladies in their beautiful hats and attire to match! After all, it is about the hats! Some of the men came dressed as jockeys—NOT SO BEAUTIFUL! Regardless, the point was to have a grand time.
I hope you have a most wonderful weekend and enjoy all the festivities. SLURP THOSE MARGARITAS AND RUN FOR THE ROSES! Just in case, you are from around here, THE BREAUX BRIDGE CRAWFISH FESTIVAL is this weekend! Geezzz—afraid to get off this merry-go-round! Be safe in whatever you do—but have some fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With all that said, now let us talk about what Sunday is! MOTHER’S DAY!
If you remember from a previous post, I stated that you do not necessarily have to give birth to be a MOTHER! I know many aunts, nieces, cousins, grandparents, and even males that take on the role of being a mother-figure-head.
One thing I know for sure, when you lose your Mother, all of a sudden, you seem to remember everything she said or tried to instill in you. A day does not go by, that I do not think of my Mother. Something, as little as a smell from the kitchen, a sound of shuffling feet, looking at a rocking chair, can bring all those memories roaring back. I know, there are people, who may not have such good memories, but I hope for them that there is someone, somewhere that can fulfill that role. We all deserve someone to look up to. Just remember, that you can be that person, for someone in your family or community, who needs a mentor.
One thing I can remember my grandmother, then my mother, saying to me: “DON’T TRY SO HARD TO FIT IN—WHEN YOU WERE BORN TO STAND OUT!” Today—go out and hug and kiss that person, who was or is, your MOTHER FIGURE!
Anyway, this is the time of year, that we give new life to all things that surround us. You know it makes you feel good and alive. It is most important to remember this: “IT IS NOT THE HOME THAT YOU SHOULD LOVE SO MUCH BUT THE LIFE THAT IS LIVED IN THAT HOME!”
“HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO”!
Get out there and enjoy some of these marvelous festivities!
KITCHEN WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, MAY 9TH!
Have a safe and productive weekend!
