My Favorite Fried Cheese Sticks
- 2 (8-oz.) packages Monterey Jack Cheese
- 1 c. flour
- 2 t. red pepper
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 c. fine, dry Italian breadcrumbs or plain
- Canola oil
- Commercial salsa or marinara sauce, for dipping
- Cut cheeses crosswise into ¾” slices.
- Lay slices flat and cut in half lengthwise.
- Combine flour and red pepper. Mix well.
- Dip cheese sticks in the beaten eggs.
- Then dredge in flour mixture.
- Dip again in egg mixture then dip in breadcrumbs, pressing firmly so that the crumbs adhere.
- Place cheese sticks on wax paper on a baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour.
- Heat oil to 375. Fry the frozen sticks until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve with salsa or marinara sauce.
*****You can substitute mozzarella or Swiss for the Monterey Jack.
